A Day Aboard Silver Nova – Silversea’s Industry Changing Ship
Launched in 2023, Silver Nova brought the impact to the ultra-luxury cruise market that the industry had been waiting for. From the asymmetrical design, glass elevators, infinity pool and hot tub to being a ship with 100% veranda suites, it was the defining moment in design. We’ve just spent a week aboard Silver Nova and here is our look at how to maximise your time aboard.
Getting the Day Started
Being the most important meal for most, breakfast is served across a variety of restaurants. If you are looking for large dishes, from French Toast to Eggs Royale, Atlantide and La Terrazza are the places to be. For those who are looking for a lighter option with their coffee, stop by Arts Café, which features fantastic small bites that change throughout the day.
A Brief Stop for Lunch
Each day aboard there are 4 restaurants open, allowing for much choice depending on how you are feeling. For those who are wanting a more formal option, the dining room Atlantide is open on Deck 3 for an à la carte dining experience. With the menu changing every day, this is a great way to indulge your lunchtime experience.
If you’re looking for a more relaxed experience, La Terrazza is available buffet style, and by buffet there really was ample choice, from fillet steaks and sushi to a very well-rounded vegan and vegetarian selection. The benefit of La Terrazza is the option to dine either inside or on their aft-facing terrace in warmer climates.
Most, however, choose to dine at the Marquee, where a menu of light bites and the catch of the day awaits. This semi-outdoor experience is the most casual option and is loved by those who have just come back from ashore or spent the morning poolside. While dining at the Marquee you also have the option to choose from Spaccanapoli, with made-to-order pizzas delighting your taste buds. An insider tip: if you are not feeling too hungry, you always have the option to order half a pizza instead of the whole thing.
Sailing from Port
For us, every sail away is a traditional family affair which needs Champagne and snacks to toast the port and enjoy the changing landscape as we sail from land. Our Butler was instrumental in bringing canapés and champagne each evening. One night we ordered caviar to the suite, and the set-up was quite remarkable, an additional indulgence that’s all included in your cruise fare.
Dinner
The amount of choice you have each evening for dinner is remarkable. The Silversea staple is Atlantide, with a changing menu each day and one side remaining the same throughout the voyage, think the traditional favourites of freshwater lobster, fillet mignon and duck.
Next to Atlantide on Deck 3 is S.A.L.T Kitchen, which is Silversea’s local cuisine concept, at each destination you visit, the dishes reflect where you are.
In the evening, the daytime buffet, La Terrazza, turns into an Italian restaurant with tableside service and freshly made pasta. Again, the outside terrace is available for those wishing to dine under the night sky.
Silver Note is possibly Silversea’s most popular restaurant. Combining jazz and dinner, this intimate show lounge has smaller, more tapas-like dishes which you can enjoy while listening to the sounds of Duke Ellington sung by Silversea’s very talented musicians.
La Dame is Silversea’s speciality restaurant, which does incur a cover charge. Traditionally French, when we dined in this beautiful room, the service was exceptionally personalised and attentive. This may have been our favourite dinner onboard.
Kaiseki is an extremely intimate restaurant with a sushi counter. Wonderfully fresh and petite dishes are served here, with the highest quality of sushi and Wagyu beef. This is a speciality restaurant and does incur a cover charge.
Finally, the Marquee is once again open for dinner, and their staple dish is the “hot rock.” Raw steak and shrimp are brought to you, and you cook these on the hot rock, the smell is wonderful, and the warm breeze from the Mediterranean Sea made this even better.
And after all that food, unwind to live music in Dolce Vita and Panorama Lounge, which often leads to late nights and new friends.
Activities & Enrichment
Silversea offers a comprehensive entertainment program, so if lounging by the pool or exploring the amazing ports isn’t for you, there are plenty of trivia nights, lectures, shows and parties to enjoy. We particularly enjoyed S.A.L.T Lab, which offers a cooking class, this was a fun, interactive experience where we made dishes from the local area we were visiting. Highly recommended.
